Barcelona are finalising the permanent sale of Ansu Fati to AS Monaco for a fee of €11 million, according to reports from Mundo Deportivo. The agreement includes a buy-back clause, allowing Barcelona to re-sign the 22-year-old forward for €29 million.
Fati spent last season on loan at Monaco after a previous loan spell at Brighton failed to revitalise his career with the Catalan club. A series of temporary moves made a permanent exit increasingly likely, particularly following the arrival of Anthony Gordon at Camp Nou this summer.
Barcelona have successfully negotiated a fixed repurchase option, rather than a percentage of any future sale, after lengthy discussions with Monaco. Fati is expected to sign a four-year contract with the Ligue 1 club, keeping him at Monaco until 2030. The higher buy-back figure reflects Monaco’s investment in a long-term deal and Barcelona’s belief in Fati’s potential to regain his form.
The sale will free up approximately €17.2 million in future salary commitments for Barcelona, as reported by Mundo Deportivo. This financial relief is crucial for the club as they aim to comply with La Liga’s financial fair play regulations and register new signings, requiring between €30m and €50m in player sales this summer.
Fati enjoyed a productive loan campaign with Monaco, scoring 11 goals in 28 Ligue 1 appearances, averaging a goal every 109 minutes. This represents a significant improvement compared to his four goals in 27 appearances for Brighton during the previous season. He also accumulated 1,199 league minutes in France, one of the highest seasonal totals of his career, which has been frequently interrupted by injuries.
Monaco had initially attempted to negotiate a lower option fee, citing concerns about Fati’s fitness record, but his goal-scoring form appears to have swayed their decision. It is unclear whether agent Jorge Mendes, who is also involved in Bernardo Silva’s potential move to Real Madrid, played a role in finalising the transfer.
