Barcelona have emerged as a serious contender to sign Bournemouth's highly-rated forward Eli Junior Kroupi this summer, according to reports, dealing a blow to Arsenal's pursuit of the 19-year-old. The Daily Mail reports that the Catalan giants have identified Kroupi as a potential target as they plan for a future beyond Robert Lewandowski, joining a host of Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, and Manchester United, in monitoring the player.
Kroupi has enjoyed a sensational debut season in the Premier League, scoring 12 goals in 30 appearances for the Cherries. His form has made him one of the most sought-after young talents in European football ahead of the summer transfer window. Arsenal, in particular, had reportedly earmarked him as a potential long-term option to bolster their attacking line, with Gabriel Jesus expected to depart the Emirates Stadium.
However, Bournemouth's stance presents a significant obstacle for all interested parties. The club is reportedly reluctant to sell the France Under-21 international, having seen several key players depart in recent windows. Kroupi still has four years remaining on his contract at the Vitality Stadium, and it is believed a fee in excess of €80 million would be required to even begin negotiations. This valuation reflects his immediate impact, having previously scored 23 goals in his final season for Lorient before joining Bournemouth last year.
For Barcelona, Kroupi represents an alternative option to their primary striker target, Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez. The club's interest underscores Kroupi's rapid development and versatility, having operated effectively as a second striker this season despite his prolific output. His potential arrival would signal a move towards a younger attacking profile at Camp Nou.
The intense competition for his signature, now spanning England and Spain, sets the stage for a major bidding war. Bournemouth's firm position means any deal would constitute a club-record sale and a statement of intent from the buying club. For Arsenal, Barcelona's formal entry into the race complicates their transfer strategy, potentially forcing them to look elsewhere or commit a substantial portion of their summer budget to secure Kroupi ahead of their European rivals.
