Barcelona have made an initial enquiry regarding the availability of Real Betis winger Ez Abde this summer, according to reports in MD. The move comes as Barcelona reassess their options for strengthening their left wing position, with current loanee Marcus Rashford’s future uncertain.
Barcelona hold a €30 million buy option on Rashford, but the club are hesitant to trigger the clause, while Manchester United appear unwilling to significantly lower their asking price. This has prompted the Catalan side to explore alternative, more affordable options, with Abde emerging as a potential target alongside Andreas Schjelderup and Jan Virgili.
Abde currently plays for Real Betis, having joined the club permanently three years ago for a fee of €7.5 million from Barcelona. The Moroccan international has impressed this season, attracting interest from other Premier League clubs including Aston Villa and Newcastle United. Reports suggest Betis value Abde in the range of €25-35 million, with a release clause set at €60 million.
Barcelona retain a 20% sell-on clause from the sale of Abde to Betis, which could potentially reduce the overall cost of a transfer. However, it is understood that Abde himself has reservations about a return to Camp Nou, concerned about securing regular playing time given the presence of Raphinha in the Barcelona squad. He is reportedly prioritizing a role where he is a consistent starter. Hansi Flick recently signed a contract renewal with Barcelona, extending his stay until 2028 with an option for an additional year, potentially influencing the club’s transfer strategy.
Barcelona have identified strengthening their attack, specifically at the number nine position, as their primary focus for the summer window, followed by a central defender and potentially a left winger. Securing Abde could represent a cost-effective solution to fill the left wing role, though his own ambitions will play a key part in any potential deal.
