The result leaves Barcelona with a commanding nine-point lead over second-placed Real Madrid, who could only manage a home draw with Girona earlier in the day. The size of the gap, with just a handful of games remaining, puts the Blaugrana in a commanding position to secure their first league title since 2019. For Espanyol, the defeat leaves them mired in a tense relegation battle, just two points above the bottom three.
