FC Barcelona have turned their attention to Bournemouth forward Éli Junior Kroupi as they struggle to agree a deal for Atlético Madrid’s Julian Alvarez, according to L’Équipe. Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, has led the effort to sign the 20-year-old, following the approval of head coach Hansi Flick, who is reportedly impressed by Kroupi’s qualities.
Barcelona have submitted two offers for Kroupi, both below €100 million, but both have been rejected by Bournemouth. Reports in Catalonia are highlighting Kroupi's potential, and a childhood photo of the player wearing a Barcelona shirt has circulated widely on social media. Sources suggest Kroupi is enthusiastic about the prospect of joining the Spanish champions and has communicated this desire to his representatives.
Despite the strong interest in Kroupi, Alvarez remains Flick’s priority. Barcelona president Joan Laporta is personally involved in negotiations with Atlético Madrid, but relations between the clubs are strained following Alvarez’s public statements expressing his desire to leave. Alvarez stated during the World Cup that a transfer would be “the best for everyone” and that he wanted to “realize his dream.”
Barcelona’s initial offer of €100 million for Alvarez has not yet persuaded Atlético Madrid to sell. The need for attacking reinforcements is pressing for Barcelona, following Robert Lewandowski’s departure to MLS side Chicago Fire and reported interest from Paris Saint-Germain in Ferran Torres. Securing a new forward is a top priority for Flick as he rebuilds the Barcelona attack. Negotiations on both fronts are expected to be challenging.
