Barcelona to offload Marc Casado and Ferran Torres in summer clear-out
Barcelona are planning to sell first-team players Marc Casado and Ferran Torres this summer as part of a significant squad overhaul, according to reports in Spain. The club's director of football, Deco, has reportedly sanctioned the sales as the club seeks to raise funds and create financial room for new signings.
Catalan outlet Sport reports that the club is keen to make the sales to help its financial position and raise a transfer budget for priority targets. The sales are seen as crucial for the club to move closer to its La Liga-imposed spending limit, with the club reportedly needing to raise just 11-12 million euros more to be able to use all of its financial fair play capacity.
Midfielder Marc Casado, 22, is one of the players the club is willing to part with. Despite a breakthrough season last year that earned him a Spain call-up, his importance in the squad has diminished this season. Barcelona are reportedly open to offers for the academy graduate, with interest from Saudi Arabian clubs, and he has also been mentioned as a potential makeweight in a deal to keep Joao Cancelo at the club. Casado's contract runs until 2028, giving Barcelona a strong negotiating position.
The other major name on the list is forward Ferran Torres. The 28-year-old winger enjoyed a strong 2025 but has struggled for form and goals since the turn of the year, failing to find the net in recent months. His contract expires in 2025, and Barcelona are now willing to listen to offers rather than risk losing him on a free transfer next year. He has been linked as a potential makeweight in deals for players like Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez or Inter Milan's Alessandro Bastoni.
This marks a significant shift in strategy for Deco, who has been reluctant to sanction major sales since his arrival. The club's financial situation, however, is forcing a more pragmatic approach. The sales of Casado and Torres would generate immediate funds and free up significant space on the wage bill, allowing Deco to pursue his own transfer targets. The club's priority is to raise a final 11-12 million euros to fully unlock its salary limit, which would allow all future income from sales to be spent on new signings.
While both players are believed to be keen to stay at the club, Barcelona's financial and sporting strategy appears to have moved on. The sales would represent a clear-out of players who, despite their contributions, are seen as expendable in the club's bid to rebuild and challenge on multiple fronts. The potential departures would open up squad space and financial resources for Deco to reshape the squad in the upcoming transfer window.
