Barcelona and Real Madrid are both monitoring the situation of Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol, with the 24-year-old potentially available for a fee of €75 million this summer.
The interest from both Spanish giants stems from a need to strengthen their central defensive options ahead of the upcoming season. Both clubs have been assessing potential targets, initially including Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck, though their pursuit cooled after the player signed a contract extension with the German club.
Gvardiol joined Manchester City from RB Leipzig in 2023 for a reported €90 million, but according to CaughtOffside, he is now open to a move following the departure of Pep Guardiola. The Croatia international has previously expressed interest in a transfer to Real Madrid, and is also attracting attention from Bayern Munich, who are considering bringing him back to Germany.
Manchester City are reportedly willing to accept a €75 million offer for Gvardiol, representing a potential loss on the fee they paid just three years ago. Despite generally performing well for City, the club may be open to a sale given the player’s apparent desire for a new challenge.
Currently, neither Real Madrid nor Barcelona have prioritized Gvardiol. Real Madrid are still evaluating their options for the summer window, while Barcelona are focused on strengthening their attacking line, reportedly nearing a deal for Anthony Gordon and planning to pursue a new striker once that transfer is finalized.
Despite not being a current priority, Gvardiol’s quality and availability could make him an attractive option for either club should their other targets prove unattainable. His arrival would undoubtedly bolster either team’s defensive capabilities.
