Bradley Barcola has informed Paris Saint-Germain of his decision not to sign a contract extension, opening the door for potential moves to the Premier League with Arsenal and Liverpool, according to Fabrizio Romano. The France international winger’s future at Parc des Princes has been subject to speculation throughout the summer, with both English clubs closely monitoring the situation.
PSG had been engaged in negotiations with Barcola regarding a new deal for months, but the 23-year-old has now ended talks, signalling his desire to explore opportunities elsewhere. L’Equipe reports that the breakdown in negotiations stems from sporting reasons, with Barcola unhappy with his role as a substitute, despite PSG’s recent Champions League successes. While wages were not a factor, the former Lyon player sought a more prominent position within the squad.
Romano confirmed via social media that Barcola’s decision is final and that Liverpool currently consider him a top target. The player’s decision has drawn criticism in France, with pundit Elton Mokolo suggesting a departure would be a mistake, citing Barcola’s previous regular starting role and the benefits of playing for a Champions League contender.
Despite Barcola’s stance, PSG have publicly maintained that he is not for sale. However, the club’s pursuit of Yan Diomande has encountered complications with Real Madrid also showing strong interest, potentially altering PSG’s approach. Manager Luis Enrique had expressed a desire to retain Barcola, even with the potential arrival of another winger. Barcola’s contract with PSG still has two years remaining, and his Estimated Transfer Value is currently €63.6 million, though PSG are likely to demand a fee exceeding €100 million. Bayern Munich had also shown interest, but appear to be shifting focus as they close in on Michael Olise.
