Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni did not appear before prosecutors today to answer questions regarding an investigation into alleged involvement with a prostitution ring involving minors, according to reports in Italian media. The decision, made on the advice of his lawyer Salvatore Scuto, stems from what Scuto described as a vaguely worded summons. Meanwhile, Riccardo Calafiori was questioned as a person informed of the facts, following similar interviews with Daniel Maldini and Kevin Bonifazi, with no significant new information emerging from those sessions.
The investigation centers around allegations that Bastoni had a relationship with a 17-year-old girl in July 2020. Bastoni has consistently denied any wrongdoing, and the inquiry follows a difficult personal season for the player. He was subjected to jeers in connection with the Kalulu case and his red card in Zenica, which contributed to Italy’s failure to qualify for the World Cup.
Despite these challenges, Bastoni has reportedly felt supported by Inter and has not expressed a desire to leave the club. However, the ongoing investigation could alter his situation. Reports suggest that while Inter has previously been unwilling to sell Bastoni, they may be open to considering offers that meet his market value, particularly if the situation deteriorates. The club has consistently expressed support for the player.
Bastoni has been linked with several European clubs in the past, including Barcelona, Real Madrid, and teams in the Premier League. However, a potential move abroad could present challenges, as few foreign leagues utilize the three-man defensive system in which Bastoni excels. The possibility of evaluating offers with a different perspective has emerged given the current circumstances. Inter officials are believed to be monitoring the situation closely and will assess their options based on how the investigation unfolds and the offers that may arrive this summer.
