Tottenham Hotspur have received a positive assessment of midfielder Martin Baturina as they continue to be linked with the 23-year-old, according to Croatian football expert Daniela Rogulj. Despite significant investment in midfield this summer with the arrivals of Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali, Spurs are reportedly still considering further additions in attacking midfield positions.
Rogulj believes Baturina is well-suited to the tactical approach of new Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi. She told Tottenham News that De Zerbi’s preference for patient build-up play and midfielders who can progress the ball under pressure aligns with Baturina’s skillset. His experience playing under Cesc Fabregas at Como, a club known for a similar possession-based philosophy, should have adequately prepared him for De Zerbi’s system.
While Rogulj acknowledges the existing midfield options at Tottenham and the club’s substantial summer spending, she believes Baturina could significantly enhance De Zerbi’s project if Spurs are committed to a possession-heavy style of play. She suggests the key question is not whether he fits the style, but where he would fit within the current squad.
Como are reportedly reluctant to sell Baturina, having set an asking price of €80 million (£69m) following enquiries from both Tottenham and Aston Villa. This valuation may present a challenge for Tottenham, who have already spent close to £230 million this summer and are also pursuing a deal for Manchester City winger Savinho. The financial feasibility of a move for Baturina remains uncertain.
Manchester United have also been mentioned as potential suitors for Baturina, adding competition for his signature. Baturina’s arrival would further bolster Tottenham’s midfield options and potentially unlock a more dynamic attacking approach under De Zerbi.
