Bayern Munich hold concrete talks for Newcastle's Anthony Gordon
Bayern Munich have held concrete talks with Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon over a potential transfer in the summer of 2026, according to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg. The Bundesliga champions have identified the 25-year-old as their preferred candidate to provide competition for Luis Díaz on the left wing, though the clubs are not yet in formal discussions.
This development presents a significant challenge to Arsenal, who have also done detailed work on Gordon and are closely monitoring his situation. Sources have told TEAMtalk that Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta is keen on the player and that Gordon’s representatives have made the Gunners aware of his willingness to work under manager Mikel Arteta. However, Bayern’s direct approach to the player has accelerated the race for his signature.
Newcastle’s financial position is expected to be a key factor in any deal. The club could be forced to consider a major sale if they fail to qualify for the Champions League next season. Our transfer correspondent Fraser Fletcher reported in February that Newcastle would demand a fee of at least £95 million for Gordon, a valuation that may give Bayern pause given the player would likely be a rotational option behind Díaz.
Gordon has developed into one of the Premier League's most effective wide attackers since his £45 million move from Everton to Newcastle in January 2024. His direct running, improved end product, and relentless work rate have made him a favourite at St. James' Park and earned him a regular place in the England setup. This consistent form is what has attracted the attention of Europe's elite.
For Bayern, the pursuit aligns with a strategy of building formidable depth in wide areas. Díaz has been a standout since his arrival from Liverpool, contributing 41 goal involvements this season, but the club sees Gordon as an ideal profile to push the Colombian. For Arsenal, Gordon represents a potential long-term solution on the left flank as they look to refresh their attacking options under Arteta's project.
The coming months will test Newcastle's resolve, with the club's stance expected to harden if they secure a top-four finish. Both Bayern and Arsenal will be weighing the substantial financial outlay against the tactical benefits Gordon would bring. With talks already underway between Bayern and the player's camp, the German giants have taken an early, assertive step in a transfer saga that is set to define the 2026 window.
