Bayern Munich intend to open negotiations with Harry Kane over a new contract at the end of the season, according to club supervisory board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. The former Bayern chief confirmed the plan in an interview with t-online.de, citing Kane's decision not to activate a release clause in his existing deal as a clear signal of his commitment to the Bundesliga club.
Kane's current contract runs until the summer of 2027, but Rummenigge indicated that the club's sporting leadership will now seek to extend that agreement. "Signing Harry Kane for Bayern Munich was an important coup in the club's history," Rummenigge said. "It is well known that he had a release clause. He did not activate it, which signals that he intends to stay in Munich for sure. Now, the responsible decision-makers in the sporting department – as agreed – will hold talks with him at some point after the season, with the clear aim of extending his contract."
The England captain, now 32, joined Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2023 and has since scored a remarkable 138 goals in 141 appearances for the German champions. His prolific output has continued this season under new head coach Vincent Kompany, with Rummenigge suggesting the striker's role has evolved. "He has always been a great striker who scores a lot of goals. But now he is also a playmaking striker who drops deeper into midfield and, from there, brings Michael Olise and Luis Díaz into the game with his excellent long passes. That is very important for our style of play," Rummenigge added.
For Bayern, securing Kane's long-term future would represent a major statement of intent, locking down a player who has been the focal point of their attack since his arrival. The potential extension would also protect the club's significant investment, having paid an initial fee reported to be in excess of €100 million for his services. From Kane's perspective, committing to Bayern would suggest a continued belief in the project at the Allianz Arena, where he has already claimed two Bundesliga titles.
The planned talks, expected to commence after the current campaign concludes, will be a priority for Bayern's sporting directors. Securing the future of their talismanic forward would provide stability as the club continues its transition under Kompany and aims to reassert its dominance both domestically and in European competition. Kane's adaptation and continued elite production make him a cornerstone of that ambition.
