Bayern Munich are increasingly optimistic about signing Manchester United winger Marcus Rashford this summer, following productive discussions with the player’s representatives, according to TEAMtalk. The German champions are preparing an initial bid of €25million (£21.5m, $29m) as they look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new Bundesliga season.
Rashford, 28, spent last season on loan at Barcelona, where he contributed 28 goal contributions – 14 goals and 14 assists – helping the club win LaLiga and the Supercopa de Espana. However, Barcelona have not activated their €30million (£26m, $35m) purchase clause, which expires on June 15th, leaving Rashford’s future uncertain. While Barcelona are reportedly open to another loan arrangement, Manchester United are determined to sell the player.
United are understood to be seeking a fee of €30million for Rashford, matching the figure Barcelona could have paid, as they aim to raise funds for their own squad improvements. Despite the willingness of both clubs to complete a deal, Rashford must first agree to the move. This potential transfer represents another fresh start for the England international, who has played for United, Aston Villa (on loan in the 2024/25 season), and Barcelona in the last 18 months.
Rashford’s time at Old Trafford has been marked by inconsistent form, leading the club to seek his departure. At Bayern, he would join a squad featuring fellow England international Harry Kane and compete for major honours, including the Champions League. Bayern view Rashford as a versatile left-sided option, but negotiations regarding wages and a guaranteed starting position remain key hurdles. Rashford’s substantial salary and Bayern’s wage structure will require compromise from the player. He will also face competition from players like Luis Diaz, Michael Olise, and Jamal Musiala for a place in the starting eleven.
Manchester United are focused on rebuilding their squad and see Rashford’s sale as a way to generate funds. The club also anticipates significant savings from his wages, particularly with a potential return to the Champions League. While some United fans would like to see Rashford remain, many believe a departure is in the best interest of all parties. Should the move to Bayern fall through, Arsenal and Chelsea have reportedly expressed interest in signing Rashford, but Bayern are currently pushing to secure his signature after missing out on other targets like Anthony Gordon.
