Bayern Munich are reportedly interested in signing Sergiño Dest from PSV Eindhoven, alongside their pursuit of Ismael Saibari. According to Eindhovens Dagblad, the German champions have added the United States international to their shortlist, potentially bolstering their options at right-back. A fee in the region of €23-25 million is being discussed for the 25-year-old.
Dest currently plays for PSV, having joined the club after a spell at FC Barcelona. He has re-established himself in the Netherlands after a challenging period in Spain, becoming a key player for Peter Bosz’s side. This season, he has featured prominently, contributing both defensively and in attack, and is expected to be a part of the United States squad for the upcoming World Cup.
Bayern’s interest in Dest is not new, with the club having previously considered a move for him when he was at Ajax. However, he ultimately opted for a transfer to Barcelona in 2020. The current opportunity represents a second chance for Bayern to secure his services, potentially providing competition for, or a long-term replacement for, existing right-back options.
The potential double raid on PSV signals Bayern’s intent to strengthen their squad following a successful domestic campaign. Saibari, a young attacking midfielder, would offer creativity and dynamism, while Dest would add defensive solidity and attacking impetus from the right flank. Securing both players would provide manager Thomas Tuchel with greater tactical flexibility as he looks to compete on multiple fronts next season. The move could also be influenced by the expiring contract of Joao Cancelo, who was on loan at Bayern last season.
PSV will likely be reluctant to lose two key players in one window, but Bayern’s financial power and the opportunity for Dest and Saibari to play at a higher level could prove to be persuasive factors. Negotiations are expected to continue in the coming weeks, with both clubs aiming to reach an agreement that suits their respective needs.
