Bayern Munich complete signing of Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise
Bayern Munich have signed winger Michael Olise from Crystal Palace, the Bundesliga club has confirmed. The 22-year-old has agreed a five-year contract with the German champions, with the deal understood to be worth an initial fee in the region of €60 million. Olise becomes the latest high-profile addition to Vincent Kompany's squad as Bayern look to reclaim the Bundesliga title from Bayer Leverkusen.
Olise arrives at the Allianz Arena following three seasons at Selhurst Park, where he established himself as one of the Premier League's most exciting creative talents. The France Under-21 international scored 10 goals and provided six assists in 19 league appearances last season, despite being hampered by injuries. His performances, including a stunning curled strike in Palace's 4-0 win over Manchester United, solidified his reputation and attracted widespread interest.
The move represents a significant step in Olise's career, trading the mid-table security of Palace for the perennial trophy expectations of Bayern. For the Bavarian club, the signing addresses a clear need for more dynamism and goal threat from the wide areas. According to Sky Sports, Bayern's sporting director Christoph Freund identified Olise as a primary target early in the window, valuing his versatility to play on either flank and his proven productivity in a major league.
For Crystal Palace, the sale represents a substantial profit on a player signed from Reading for approximately €9 million in 2021. New manager Oliver Glasner will now have significant funds to reinvest in his squad. The transfer continues a trend of top Bundesliga clubs recruiting from the Premier League, following deals such as Harry Kane's move to Bayern last summer.
Olise's arrival in Munich likely signals the end of the club's pursuit of other wing targets, including Barcelona's Raphinha, who had also been linked. He is expected to compete for a starting role alongside the likes of Leroy Sane, Kingsley Coman, and Serge Gnabry, with Kompany likely to employ a more fluid, attacking system. The deal underscores Bayern's intent to respond aggressively to a trophyless season, having already secured the signing of defensive midfielder Joao Palhinha from Fulham.
