Bayern Munich face Arsenal battle for Leverkusen's Christian Kofane
Bayern Munich are reportedly concerned they could lose the race for Bayer Leverkusen striker Christian Kofane, with Arsenal emerging as a serious rival for his signature, according to reports in Germany. The Bundesliga champions are in the market for a striker and have the 21-year-old on their shortlist, but fear being outmanoeuvred by the Premier League club in the upcoming summer transfer window.
According to journalist Christian Falk, speaking to CFBayern Insider, Bayern's interest in Kofane is genuine, but the player is only one of several options. The club is also reportedly monitoring Hoffenheim's Fisnik Asllani. Bayern's sporting director, Christoph Freund, did not deny the club's interest when questioned. However, Falk suggests that Bayern's primary transfer priorities lie elsewhere, with a left-winger and a right-back taking precedence. He also noted that significant funds for a striker might only be available if Bayern sell players first.
In contrast, Arsenal are expected to make a formal bid for Kofane this summer, as reported by Falk. The Gunners are reportedly preparing for a potential forward line overhaul, with the futures of both Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli uncertain. Kofane's agent, Eric Depolo, has previously stated his client is a "€100 million player" and a long-term solution for any top club. The 21-year-old has contributed five goals and three assists in 26 Bundesliga appearances this season for Leverkusen, who are believed to value the player between £52 million and £61 million.
While Bayern have a well-documented need for a long-term understudy and eventual successor to Harry Kane, their interest is currently described as less intense than Arsenal's. The Premier League leaders are seen as a major threat to Bayern's pursuit, with the financial power of the English club posing a significant challenge. The situation suggests a potential summer transfer battle, with Arsenal appearing to hold a strong position in the early stages of the saga.
