Bayern Munich Smash Bundesliga Goals Record in Rout of St. Pauli
Bayern Munich have broken their own Bundesliga record for goals in a single season, notching five times in a 5-0 victory over St. Pauli to bring their season tally to a historic 105 goals.
The record champions, who had already secured the league title, surpassed their own 51-year-old record of 101 goals in a 34-game season, set in the 1971-72 campaign. The new mark was set with five league matches still to play.
The scoring was opened early by Jamal Musiala, who headed home in the 9th minute. The floodgates truly opened after halftime, with Leon Goretzka, Michael Olise, Nicolas Jackson, and Raphaél Guerreiro all finding the net in a dominant second-half display. A second goal for Goretta was later disallowed by VAR for offside in the build-up.
The victory extends Bayern's lead at the top of the Bundesliga to 15 points over Borussia Dortmund, who have a game in hand. For FC St. Pauli, the heavy defeat sees them remain in 8th place, their European qualification hopes now mathematically over.
The result and the record underline the relentless attacking power of Vincent Kompany's side, who have now scored 105 goals in just 29 league matches this season. The previous record of 101 goals was set by Bayern themselves in the 1971-72 season, a mark that had stood for over half a century.
While the title has long been secured, the performance and the new record serve as a powerful statement of intent as Bayern prepare for the latter stages of the Champions League. For St. Pauli, the focus will now shift to finishing the season strongly and building for a more competitive campaign next year.
