Bayern Munich were in advanced negotiations to sign Feyenoord full-back Givairo Read during the January transfer window, according to former Feyenoord technical director Dennis te Kloese. Te Kloese revealed to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf that a deal was actively being pursued, with multiple clubs submitting offers in the region of €25 million for the Dutch international.
The proposed transfer involved Read remaining at Feyenoord on loan until the end of the season before completing a permanent move in the summer. However, a series of injuries sustained by Read ultimately derailed the agreement. Te Kloese believes that without those injuries, a move to the Bundesliga giants would have been highly probable.
Several other clubs also expressed interest in Read at the time, indicating a widespread appreciation for his talent. The 21-year-old has established himself as a key player for Feyenoord, contributing both defensively and offensively from the full-back position. He played a significant role in their Eredivisie title win last season, demonstrating his potential on a consistent basis.
Te Kloese suggested that Bayern’s interest was concrete and that an agreement was close to being reached before the injuries occurred. He further stated that other top clubs in England were also monitoring Read’s situation, but adopted a cautious approach following his setbacks. This wait-and-see attitude from interested parties allowed time for his fitness to be reassessed.
Now, Te Kloese believes Nottingham Forest are attempting to capitalize on the situation and secure Read’s signature before larger clubs re-enter the race. This suggests that Read’s future remains uncertain, but he is still attracting attention from clubs across Europe. A successful transfer would provide Feyenoord with a significant fee and offer Read the opportunity to test himself at a higher level, while potentially bolstering either Forest or Bayern’s squad.
