Bayern Munich's Jamal Musiala launches children's book series
Bayern Munich and Germany star Jamal Musiala has authored two children's books, launching a new venture away from the football pitch. The books, titled 'My Football Adventure Begins' and 'My Star At Bayern,' were released on Friday, according to a report by the German media outlet Welt. The 23-year-old midfielder has collaborated with Welt sports journalist Julien Wolff on the project, which is presented in a comic book style with large text and short paragraphs designed to encourage reading among children who may find it challenging.
The publications offer a personal glimpse into Musiala's early life and his initial experiences at the German champions. In one anecdote, he recalls being frightened by a fox at the age of seven, having never had a garden before, and needing reassurance from his mother. Another story details the nerves before his first training session with Bayern after joining the club in 2019, with Musiala checking his alarm clock seven times to ensure he would not oversleep.
The creative endeavor comes during a period where Musiala has been sidelined from action. He sustained a fibula fracture during Bayern's Club World Cup quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain earlier this year and has since been managing subsequent ankle problems. This period of rehabilitation has provided an opportunity for the player to focus on projects outside of his football career.
Musiala, born in Stuttgart, is considered one of the brightest talents in European football. He rose through Chelsea's academy before moving to Bayern Munich at the age of 16, quickly establishing himself as a key creative force for both club and country. His technical ability and dribbling prowess have made him a fan favorite at the Allianz Arena and a crucial component for Germany ahead of hosting Euro 2024.
The book launch illustrates a growing trend among elite athletes to engage in publishing, particularly within the children's genre. For Bayern Munich, it highlights the off-pitch profile of one of their most marketable assets. The club will be hopeful that Musiala can return to full fitness swiftly, as they aim to reclaim the Bundesliga title and challenge in the UEFA Champions League. His off-field projects, meanwhile, contribute to building his personal brand and connecting with a younger generation of fans.
