Reports suggesting Real Madrid were preparing a bid for Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise have been quickly addressed through direct communication between the two clubs, preventing a potential transfer dispute. Earlier this month, speculation intensified when Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez publicly alluded to a potential €150 million investment in a marquee signing, which initially drew a firm response from Bayern president Herbert Hainer.
However, according to recent reports, both Bayern and Real Madrid were keen to avoid escalating the situation into a full-blown transfer battle. Hainer and Pérez, who enjoy a close personal relationship, engaged in private discussions to clarify their positions and prevent further speculation. These discussions were reportedly instrumental in de-escalating tensions surrounding Olise.
The foundation of this swift resolution lies in an informal agreement – described as a “Presidential Pact” – between Bayern and Real Madrid. This understanding dictates that neither club will actively pursue a player from the other without first informing the respective club of their interest. Crucially, both sides are committed to avoiding public bidding wars and media-driven transfer sagas that can inflate player valuations.
This strong relationship between the two European giants has strengthened in recent years, particularly during their UEFA Champions League encounters. Hainer and Pérez reportedly reaffirmed their mutual respect during meetings held prior to the quarter-final first leg, including a gathering at the renowned Zalacaín restaurant in Madrid. This demonstrates a level of cooperation extending beyond the pitch.
The close ties between Bayern and Real Madrid are further exemplified by Hainer’s upcoming address to approximately 1,200 students at the invitation of Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu on June 30th. This event underscores the positive rapport between the clubs’ leadership.
Bayern currently hold a strong position regarding Olise’s future. The French international is contracted to the club until 2029 and his deal does not include a release clause, granting Bayern complete control over any potential transfer negotiations. Olise joined Bayern last summer and quickly established himself as a key player, contributing significantly to their Bundesliga title win.
For now, the matter is considered closed, with Bayern and Real Madrid having successfully navigated a potentially disruptive transfer rumour through direct communication and a pre-existing understanding.
