Bilal Nadir has signed a long-term contract with Hamburg SV after his deal with Olympique de Marseille expired, the Bundesliga club confirmed on Friday morning. The 22-year-old midfielder joins the German side as a free agent, seeking to reignite his career after a period with the French outfit.
Nadir progressed through the youth ranks at Marseille, making 53 senior appearances for the club since his debut in 2023. While he became a regular squad member, opportunities to consistently feature in the starting eleven proved limited, prompting his departure at the end of his contract. He is a Franco-Moroccan international, though he has primarily represented France at youth levels.
Hamburg, who secured their Bundesliga status with a 13th-place finish following promotion, will offer Nadir a fresh start in a competitive league. The club already boasts a contingent of French-speaking players, including Jean-Luc Dompé, Rayan Philippe, Warmed Omari, and recent arrival Martin Adeline from Troyes, which could aid his integration into the squad. William Mikelbrencis departed the club at the end of June when his contract expired.
Hamburg’s director of football, Claus Costa, expressed his confidence in Nadir’s potential, stating that the player possesses significant experience for his age and is ready for the next stage of his career. Costa believes Nadir can immediately improve the team’s play and sees him as a player with considerable room for development.
