Borussia Dortmund have reportedly identified Real Madrid forward Gonzalo García as a summer transfer target, with the Bundesliga club prepared to offer around €30 million for the Spanish striker. According to reports from BILD and Spanish media, Dortmund's interest comes as the 22-year-old finds himself surplus to requirements at the Santiago Bernabéu, despite signing a long-term contract extension just last August that ties him to the club until 2030.
García, an academy graduate of Real Madrid, has struggled for minutes in recent weeks after a promising start to the season. His standout performances at the FIFA Club World Cup, where he finished as top scorer, had raised hopes of a first-team breakthrough. However, the dismissal of former head coach Xabi Alonso, who had given García his initial opportunities, is said to have significantly reduced his prospects at the club. He has made 34 appearances this season, scoring six goals.
The player is now reportedly open to a move to the Bundesliga, with the German top flight seen as a potential destination for his development. Prior links had connected García with Eintracht Frankfurt and VfB Stuttgart, but Dortmund's interest represents the most concrete step towards a transfer so far. The Spanish giants are willing to sanction a sale but, according to reports, are holding out for a fee closer to García's estimated market value of €60 million, meaning Dortmund's current proposed offer falls short of beginning serious negotiations.
For Dortmund, the pursuit aligns with their strategy of recruiting young talent with high potential, a profile García fits despite his limited output this campaign. For Real Madrid, a sale would represent capitalising on an asset who is not in the first-team picture, providing funds to reinvest in other areas. The significant gap in valuation suggests talks are at an early stage, with the player's long contract giving Madrid a strong negotiating position. A move would signal García seeking regular football to reignite a career that has stalled in the Spanish capital.
