Borussia Dortmund eye Strasbourg's Moreira and Rennes' Ait Boudlal for summer moves
Borussia Dortmund have identified Racing Strasbourg winger Diego Moreira and Stade Rennes defender Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal as potential summer transfer targets, according to a report from Sky Germany. The Bundesliga club's new sporting director, Ole Book, who was appointed in March, is spearheading the search for reinforcements ahead of the next campaign.
Sky Germany states that Dortmund are in the market for a winger and view the 21-year-old Moreira as an interesting option. The Belgium international, who joined Strasbourg from Benfica last summer, has impressed in Ligue 1 this season. However, the report indicates the French club's asking price of between 30 and 40 million euros could prove prohibitive for Dortmund, who are known for their prudent financial approach in the transfer market.
As a result, the club is reportedly considering cheaper alternatives. Those include a potential free transfer for Manchester United's Jadon Sancho, whose contract expires this summer and who enjoyed a successful previous spell at Signal Iduna Park, and Viking FK's Norwegian talent Edvin Austbö. The pursuit of a wide attacker comes as Dortmund seek to add depth and dynamism to their forward line.
In defence, Dortmund are preparing for the departure of veteran centre-back Niklas Süle, whose contract is set to expire. Sky Germany reports that Stade Rennes' Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal has emerged on Dortmund's radar as a potential replacement. The 22-year-old French-Moroccan defender is seen as a promising talent with strong defensive fundamentals and potential for development.
Other names previously linked with the defensive reinforcement role include Bournemouth's Marcos Senesi and Red Bull Salzburg's Joane Gadou, suggesting a broad scouting process is underway. Book's early identification of targets aligns with Dortmund's strategy of planning transfers well in advance of the window, allowing for structured negotiations.
The reported interest in Moreira and Ait Boudlal signals a clear intent to recruit young, high-potential players who can contribute immediately while also retaining significant resale value. Both players fit the profile Dortmund have successfully exploited in recent years. Should the moves materialize, they would address two key areas of the squad as the club aims to build a team capable of consistently challenging Bayern Munich for the Bundesliga title and making a deeper impact in the Champions League.
