Brahim Diaz is likely to leave Real Madrid following the anticipated appointment of Jose Mourinho as head coach, according to reports in Italy. Mourinho is set to return to the Spanish capital after Florentino Perez was re-elected as club president until 2030, having reportedly signed a three-year deal last month.
Perez’s re-election has paved the way for Mourinho’s return to a club he previously managed between 2010 and 2013, where he secured three trophies. Real Madrid have endured a two-season trophy drought, prompting the search for a manager capable of restoring success. The club is already making moves in the transfer market, with France international Ibrahima Konate set to arrive on a free transfer and Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries expected to join for a fee of €20million (£17.3m).
Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Diaz, a Morocco international, is expected to depart once Mourinho’s appointment is officially confirmed. While Diaz is reportedly keen to remain at Real Madrid, he is understood to be outside of the long-term plans of both Mourinho and Perez, opening the door for a potential move to Juventus.
Diaz joined Real Madrid from Manchester City in 2019 and has since made 163 appearances for the club, scoring 22 goals and winning six honours, including two La Liga titles and the 2024 Champions League. The Malaga-born winger previously spent three seasons on loan at AC Milan between 2020 and 2023, scoring 18 goals in 124 games. Juventus, who will compete in the Europa League next season after finishing sixth in Serie A, are also reportedly interested in Atletico Madrid striker Alexander Sorloth, hoping to secure a deal for less than €30m (£25.9m).
