Bremer addresses Juventus future, stresses need to win trophies
Juventus defender Bremer has openly discussed his ambitions and the club's direction, stating that the Bianconeri must end a cycle of merely "treading water" and return to winning major trophies. The Brazilian centre-back, speaking at a pre-match press conference ahead of Juventus's Serie A clash with AC Milan, emphasized his personal desire to lift silverware as he approaches his 30s.
Bremer's comments, reported by Italian media, come amid a period of reflection for Juventus, who have secured a Champions League qualification spot but have gone six years without a Serie A title. "Juventus has been treading water for six years and this cannot happen," Bremer said. "I feel good here, but it is important to get back to winning. To be considered a champion you have to win, and that's what I want to try to do. I am 29 and I do not have so much time left, I want to win." He described the current campaign, despite its top-four finish, as not a positive season, referencing disappointments in the Coppa Italia and Champions League.
The defender also offered insight into his recovery from a serious ACL injury suffered last season, revealing he sought counsel from Juventus legends Alessandro Del Piero and Giorgio Chiellini. "When you return from an ACL it is never easy," Bremer explained. "That's why I wanted to talk to Del Piero and Chiellini. Alex became what he is after this injury. They told me to be patient." He added that he is working with a physiotherapist and a psychologist and feels he is on the right path, though acknowledged he is still missing a small something to return to his peak.
On the pitch, Bremer has been a pillar of a defence that has improved markedly under manager Luciano Spalletti after a shaky start to the season. He credited the coach's methods and the benefit of a single-game weekly schedule for allowing the team to work more effectively. Bremer also contrasted Spalletti's proactive style with that of his predecessor, Max Allegri, whom Juventus will face on the touchline against Milan. "With Allegri we improved defensively, his history says that," Bremer noted. "Spalletti wants to play always, to always have the game in hand, and that is what we are trying to do."
Looking ahead to the summer transfer window, Bremer was asked about potential reinforcements, specifically the prospect of Juventus signing his Brazilian international teammate and Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson. He praised Alisson as a "world-class" goalkeeper but deferred any recruitment decisions to the club, highlighting the existing strength of custodians Mattia Perin and Michele Di Gregorio. Bremer's broader message focused on the collective need for Juventus to build a title-winning project, citing the recent contract renewals for players like Kenan Yildiz as positive steps, while cautioning it was too early to declare the team ready to win the Scudetto next season.
