Brentford FC have submitted a formal offer of €40 million for 1. FC Köln forward Said El Mala, according to reports in Germany. The Premier League club’s bid, as reported by Bild, also includes a potential €5 million in add-ons contingent on easily met performance targets, as well as a 15% sell-on clause for the Bundesliga side.
- FC Köln’s managing director for sport, Thomas Kessler, confirmed on Tuesday that the club had received an offer for the 19-year-old, though he did not initially name Brentford as the interested party. Kessler indicated that the offer was substantial enough to warrant consideration, stating that he was “open to talks”. Bild reports that Brentford have set a timeframe for negotiations, threatening to withdraw their bid if an agreement is not reached within a matter of days.
El Mala joined 1. FC Köln from FC Viktoria Köln in 2025 for a reported fee of just €350,000. He has quickly established himself as a promising talent in the Bundesliga, making 26 appearances across all competitions last season, scoring five goals and providing two assists. While not a consistent starter, his impact from the bench and potential for growth have attracted attention from clubs in England.
Brentford have been active in the transfer market this summer, seeking to bolster their attacking options following a mid-table finish in the Premier League last season. Manager Thomas Frank has prioritized young, dynamic players capable of contributing immediately, and El Mala fits that profile. Köln, meanwhile, may be tempted to cash in on a player whose value has increased dramatically in a short period, providing funds for their own transfer business. The sale would also represent a significant profit on a relatively small initial investment.
The potential arrival of El Mala could provide competition for existing Brentford forwards such as Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa, adding depth and versatility to Frank’s squad. If the transfer is completed, it will likely signal Brentford’s intent to continue challenging in the top half of the Premier League.
