Stade Brestois 29 have announced the appointment of Julien Lachuer as their new manager, effective July 2nd. The move comes following the tragic passing of previous manager Éric Roy on June 17th, and was reportedly Roy’s wish before his death.
Lachuer, who served as Roy’s assistant, will take the helm for the next two seasons, inheriting a team that secured Ligue 1 safety last season. The club confirmed the appointment in an official statement, highlighting Lachuer’s intimate knowledge of the club gained during his time as Roy’s deputy.
Lachuer holds the Brevet d’entraîneur professionnel de football (BEPF) qualification, obtained in May 2025. He previously worked as a goalkeeper before transitioning into coaching. The club statement emphasized that the existing coaching staff under Roy will remain in place to support Lachuer and continue working towards another season of Ligue 1 football.
Roy’s impact at Brest was significant, and Lachuer’s appointment is seen as a continuation of the work started by the late manager. The club is navigating a difficult period following Roy’s death, and the decision to promote from within reflects a desire for stability and continuity. Lachuer’s familiarity with the players and the club’s philosophy should facilitate a smoother transition. This appointment aims to build upon the foundations laid by Roy and maintain Brest’s position in the French top flight.
