Brighton & Hove Albion have emerged as strong contenders to sign Lucas Bergvall from Tottenham Hotspur, potentially hijacking a deal previously led by Nottingham Forest, according to TEAMtalk. Tottenham are reportedly willing to sell the Swedish midfielder, who has expressed a desire to leave the club this summer, for a fee exceeding £50 million.
Spurs have significantly bolstered their midfield options with the arrivals of Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali for a combined £185 million, diminishing Bergvall’s opportunities for regular first-team football. Tottenham insider John Wenham believes a sale is inevitable, suggesting the club would seek a fee comparable to the £50 million plus 20 percent sell-on clause received for Luka Vuskovic.
Forest had previously submitted a bid of £45 million for Bergvall, which was rejected by Tottenham. Brighton’s interest has now significantly altered the landscape of the transfer, with the club prepared to meet Tottenham’s escalating valuation, now approaching £60 million. This willingness to spend could force Forest to reassess their offer.
Other clubs, including Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and Fulham, have also shown interest in Bergvall, but currently appear unwilling to match Tottenham’s asking price. Forest are seeking a replacement for Elliot Anderson, who recently departed, making Bergvall a key target. However, Brighton’s financial muscle and proactive approach now position them as the frontrunners for the 20-year-old’s signature. The increased competition for Bergvall could ultimately drive up his transfer fee, providing a significant return on investment for Tottenham.
