Brighton & Hove Albion have submitted an improved transfer offer for Tottenham Hotspur defender Luka Vušković, according to multiple reports emerging from Germany and England. The Seagulls have increased their initial bid to around €35 million for the 19-year-old Croatian international, who spent last season on loan at Hamburger SV.
Vušković established himself as a key player for HSV in the 2. Bundesliga, making 31 appearances and quickly becoming a fan favourite. His performances earned him his first call-up to the Croatian national team, further raising his profile across Europe. Tottenham signed Vušković in July 2023, but immediately loaned him to Hamburg to continue his development.
Brighton’s interest in Vušković is reportedly driven by head coach Fabian Hürzeler, who is impressed by the defender’s potential and ability on the ball. The club has a proven track record of identifying and developing young talent, most recently with players like Evan Ferguson and Facundo Buonanotte, and Vušković appears to fit their recruitment profile. Sources indicate the player himself is receptive to a move to the Amex Stadium, with a verbal agreement reportedly already in place.
However, Tottenham are currently hesitant to allow Vušković to leave permanently so soon after his arrival. The club views the player as a potential long-term asset, and reportedly wants to assess his progress during pre-season before making a final decision. Negotiations between the two Premier League clubs are ongoing, with Brighton hoping their improved offer will prove sufficient to convince Tottenham to sell.
Should a deal be agreed, Vušković would likely compete with Lewis Dunk and Jan Paul van Hecke for a starting position in Brighton’s central defence. The move would represent a significant investment for Brighton, but also a statement of intent as they look to build on their recent success in the Premier League.
