Brighton & Hove Albion have completed the permanent signing of defender Luka Vuskovic from Tottenham Hotspur for a club-record fee of €54 million, according to L’Équipe. The 19-year-old Croatian international has signed a contract with the Seagulls until 2031, with an option for a further year.
Vuskovic was initially signed by Tottenham in 2023 at the age of 16, but officially joined the club in 2025 following a loan spell with Hamburger SV last season. He represented Croatia at the recent World Cup, making a single appearance. The centre-back has earned six senior international caps for Croatia since his debut.
This move represents a significant investment for Brighton, making Vuskovic their most expensive signing in the club’s history. The transfer fee places him as the second-most expensive Croatian player ever, trailing only Josko Gvardiol’s move from RB Leipzig to Manchester City in 2023 for €90 million.
The transfer between Tottenham and Brighton is not the first business done between the two clubs this summer, with Jan Paul Van Hecke moving in the opposite direction for a reported fee of around €60 million last month. Van Hecke’s move provided Brighton with funds to pursue Vuskovic, while Tottenham bolstered their defensive options.
Vuskovic developed through the academy at Hajduk Split before attracting the attention of Premier League clubs. He is a highly-rated young defender known for his composure and passing ability, and his arrival at Brighton adds further quality to their squad. The signing provides Brighton with a long-term defensive solution as they continue to establish themselves as a Premier League force.
