Cagliari have completed the signing of midfielder Harry Winks from Leicester City, the club confirmed on Friday. The 28-year-old joins the Serie A side on a permanent deal, seeking to reignite his career after three seasons in the English Championship.
Winks began his professional career with Tottenham Hotspur, where he rose through the academy and became a regular in the first team. He amassed 203 appearances for Spurs, including a starting role in the 2019 Champions League final against Liverpool. However, a series of injuries hampered his progress, leading to a move to Leicester in 2022.
His time at Leicester saw him feature in 34 Championship matches last season, scoring one goal and providing two assists. Prior to his spell in England, Winks had a previous experience in Serie A with Sampdoria during the 2022-23 season, making 20 appearances for the Blucerchiati. Cagliari manager Fabio Pisacane is expected to deploy Winks in a deep-lying midfield role, utilizing his ball-winning ability and passing range to build play from the back.
Despite his experience, Winks is not known for prolific goalscoring or assisting, having totalled 13 goals and 11 assists in 366 career games. He received only three yellow cards last season. Fantasy football analysts suggest he is a low-cost midfield option, likely to provide consistency rather than explosive returns. He is valued at approximately 13 credits in Italian fantasy football and is expected to be a regular starter for Cagliari. The move provides Cagliari with an experienced central midfielder following the departure of Gaetano.
The transfer represents an opportunity for Winks to rediscover his form in a league he is familiar with, while Cagliari add a seasoned player to their squad as they prepare for the upcoming Serie A campaign.
