Milan’s pursuit of Lazio defender Mario Gila has encountered a slight setback, with the two clubs yet to reach an agreement on a transfer fee. According to reports from mercato, Milan submitted an offer through the player’s agent, Alejandro Camaño, but it has not fully satisfied Lazio’s demands. While the difference in valuation is described as minimal, negotiations are ongoing, with both parties expressing confidence in reaching a resolution in the coming days.
The potential inclusion of young Lazio full-back Lorenzo Calvani, a 2008-born talent, is being discussed as a possible component of the deal. Milan are reportedly interested in Calvani, and Lazio may view his transfer as a key to unlocking Gila’s move. This situation is being closely monitored by new Milan manager Ruben Amorim, who arrived in Milan yesterday for the first time.
A significant portion of any fee received for Gila will be due to Real Madrid, complicating the negotiation process for Lazio. Milan are reportedly unwilling to significantly increase their offer for the Spanish defender, instead focusing on reaching an agreement on Calvani’s valuation. The club had previously agreed personal terms with Gila, offering a salary of €5 million net per season, plus a €5 million commission for his agent, figures that competing clubs like Napoli and Atalanta are unable to match.
Ruben Amorim expressed his enthusiasm after arriving in Milan, stating his desire to bring success to the club. He visited Casa Milan and San Siro to familiarize himself with the facilities and is scheduled to begin training at Milanello today. A formal press conference is planned for tomorrow before he returns to Portugal, with a full return scheduled for the team’s pre-season training on July 13th.
Alongside the pursuit of Gila, Milan are also exploring options to strengthen their attacking midfield. Konstantinos Karetsas, a 2007-born Greek international currently playing for Genk, has emerged as a potential target. Karetsas has already amassed over 100 professional appearances for both club and country. Genk recently renewed his contract and value him around €40 million, presenting a significant challenge to any potential suitor. Milan are keen to move quickly to secure Karetsas and preempt interest from other European clubs, though a significant investment in the position may hinge on the sale of Rafael Leao.
