Real Madrid defender Álvaro Carreras has released a statement addressing reports of a physical altercation with teammate Antonio Rudiger, while also facing speculation regarding his future at the club. According to reports from Onde Cero and COPE, Rudiger allegedly slapped Carreras in the dressing room in February following a team dinner intended to boost morale. Carreras did not deny the incident occurred but described it as an isolated matter that has already been resolved, and affirmed his commitment to Real Madrid.
Carreras addressed broader criticisms of his attitude and dedication in his statement, posted on social media. He stated his commitment to the club and its coaches has been unwavering since his return, and that he has consistently worked with professionalism and respect. The 23-year-old emphasized his dedication to fulfilling his dream of playing for Real Madrid, and maintained a positive relationship with the entire team.
This incident coincides with Carreras’ recent exclusion from Real Madrid’s starting lineup, prompting transfer rumours linking him with a return to the Premier League. Arsenal have been mentioned as a potential destination for the Spain U21 international, with suggestions that both the club and manager Álvaro Arbeloa are dissatisfied with his current attitude. Carreras joined Real Madrid from Benfica last summer for a fee of €50 million, quickly becoming a regular in the side, making 38 appearances this season.
Real Madrid are currently navigating several off-field issues alongside this incident. Contract negotiations with Vinicius Junior have stalled, and Kylian Mbappe’s relationship with the club has reportedly deteriorated after the forward took an unsanctioned holiday to Italy. These situations add to the pressure on the club as they attempt to secure their position in La Liga. Carreras’ Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at €56.4 million, reflecting his value in the current market.
