Casemiro has completed a move to Inter Miami from Manchester United, the MLS club confirmed on Wednesday. The Brazilian midfielder has signed a contract that runs through the end of the 2027 MLS season, with an option to extend through 2029. Financial details of the transfer were not disclosed.
The move represents a departure from Inter Miami’s recent transfer strategy, which has largely focused on acquiring players with ties to Lionel Messi’s former clubs, Barcelona and the Brazilian national team. Casemiro, 34, arrives having spent the last season as a key figure in Manchester United’s midfield, starting 33 of their 34 Premier League matches. He has been a mainstay in midfield for over a decade, previously enjoying a hugely successful spell with Real Madrid.
Casemiro’s recent form included a prominent role in Brazil’s World Cup campaign in Qatar, where he started every match for the Seleção. Despite his consistent performances, Brazil were eliminated in the round of 16 following a 2-1 defeat to Croatia. He has earned 91 caps for Brazil, scoring 10 goals. The transfer marks the end of Casemiro’s time playing in Europe, having moved to the continent in 2013.
At Manchester United, Casemiro quickly established himself as a vital player after joining from Real Madrid in 2022, bringing experience and defensive solidity to the midfield. He won the League Cup with United in 2023. His departure leaves a void in Erik ten Hag’s squad, though the club has been linked with several midfield reinforcements.
