Manchester United defeated Nottingham Forest 3-2 in their final Premier League match, securing a third-place finish with 68 points. Goals from Luke Shaw (5'), Matheus Cunha (54'), and Bryan Mbeumo (75') propelled the Red Devils to victory. The match also marked the final appearance for Casemiro, who received a farewell from the Old Trafford faithful.
The win establishes a six-point lead over Aston Villa, who previously defeated Liverpool 4-2 on Friday. Manchester United’s third-place finish ensures their qualification for next season’s Champions League. Casemiro’s departure leaves a void in midfield for Erik ten Hag’s side, having been a key figure since joining from Real Madrid in 2022.
Elsewhere in the Premier League, Newcastle United beat West Ham 3-1, while Leeds United edged past Brighton with a narrow 1-0 victory. Sunderland also secured a 3-1 win away at Everton. Brentford and Crystal Palace drew 2-2, and Wolverhampton Wanderers and Fulham played to a 1-1 stalemate.
In La Liga, Barcelona celebrated a 3-1 win over Real Betis at Camp Nou, with goals from Raphinha (27', 61') and Joao Cancelo (73'). Real Madrid defeated Sevilla 1-0, courtesy of a goal from Vinicius (14'), but importantly, Sevilla secured their La Liga status for another season thanks to results elsewhere. Girona’s defeat to Atletico Madrid allowed Sevilla to maintain their top-flight position.
Paris Saint-Germain suffered a 2-1 defeat in the Paris derby against Paris FC, with a brace from Gory (75', 93') overturning Barcola’s earlier goal (49'). Despite the loss, PSG are now focused on their upcoming Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund on May 30th in Budapest. Lens finished second in Ligue 1 after a 4-0 win over Lyon, pushing Fonseca’s Lille into fourth place. Marseille secured fifth place with a 3-1 victory over Rennes, while Monaco lost a high-scoring match against Strasbourg 5-4.
