Nicolas Chabot has officially departed FC Nantes, the club confirmed on Wednesday. The 31-year-old manager leaves the Brittany-based side a year before the expiration of his contract to take charge of Olympique de Marseille, replacing Corinne Diacre.
Chabot arrived at Nantes at the age of 19 and played a significant role in the development of the club’s women’s section. He guided the team to promotion to the top flight of French women’s football, and secured their status in the league for his first season. This past season saw Nantes achieve their best-ever result, finishing fourth and reaching the Coupe de France semi-finals where they lost 8-0 to Olympique Lyonnais Féminin.
According to sources within the club, Chabot was considered for a role with the men’s team, but ultimately accepted the offer from Marseille. His departure has been met with an outpouring of gratitude from the club and fans, with the official FC Nantes Féminines account posting a farewell message on social media.
Chabot’s move to Marseille represents a significant step up in his managerial career. He inherits a team with high expectations, and will be tasked with building on the foundations laid by Diacre. The appointment signals a potential shift in direction for the club, with Chabot bringing a reputation for developing young talent and implementing an attacking style of play. This move is expected to be a challenging but rewarding opportunity for the young manager.
