Chelsea have increased their interest in Real Madrid defender Jacobo Ramon, with a decision on the 20-year-old’s future expected this week, according to TEAMtalk. Crucial talks between Real Madrid and Como, Ramon’s current club, are scheduled to determine whether the Spaniard will return to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Ramon enjoyed a successful season with Como, making 32 Serie A appearances and contributing to 14 clean sheets under manager Cesc Fabregas, helping the club qualify for the Champions League. He initially joined Como last summer for a fee of less than €3 million, but Real Madrid retained a 50 per cent sell-on clause and a buy-back option.
Real Madrid have been assessing Ramon’s progress throughout the summer, viewing him as a success story from their loan strategy. However, the arrival of Jose Mourinho as manager has altered the landscape at the club, with recent signings like Denzel Dumfries, Marc Cucurella, and Ibrahim Konate strengthening the defensive options. Mourinho’s focus has seemingly shifted away from reintegrating Ramon into the first team.
Sources indicate that Real Madrid and Como will discuss both Ramon’s and fellow Como player Nico Paz’s futures this week. Chelsea have been informed they will receive clarity on Ramon’s situation later in the week and are prepared to make a move if Real decide against activating their buy-back clause. The West London club are actively seeking defensive reinforcements and view Ramon as a promising long-term prospect.
Chelsea are also reportedly close to completing a deal for Atalanta wing-back Marco Palestra, but this move is not expected to impact their pursuit of Ramon, as the two players are seen as addressing different areas of the squad. Ramon himself is reportedly open to a move to Stamford Bridge should the opportunity arise. Other potential defensive targets for Chelsea include Crystal Palace’s Maxence Lacroix, Brentford’s Nathan Collins, and Club Brugge’s Joel Ordonez.
Como are hoping to retain Ramon, but the final decision rests with Real Madrid, who must determine whether he fits into Mourinho’s plans or if a sale would be more beneficial for both the club and the player. Chelsea remain poised to capitalize should Real Madrid opt against bringing Ramon back to Spain.
