Chelsea have been given the go-ahead to sign forward Folarin Balogun from Monaco, according to Foot Mercato. The French outlet reports that Monaco are actively seeking a replacement for the United States international, signalling their willingness to consider offers for the 25-year-old.
Balogun recently concluded a productive 2025/26 season with Monaco, registering 19 goals in all competitions. He notably enjoyed a run of eight consecutive Ligue 1 games scoring between February and April, demonstrating a strong vein of form. Despite a disappointing World Cup campaign for the USMNT, where they were eliminated by Belgium, Balogun had previously impressed, scoring three goals in the group stage.
The forward’s World Cup participation was marred by a controversial red card against Bosnia and Herzegovina, which led to intervention from US president Donald Trump to overturn a one-match suspension. This situation, while ultimately unsuccessful in altering the tournament outcome, brought Balogun increased global attention.
Monaco, now managed by former Chelsea defender Filipe Luis, are reportedly facing financial pressures and need to generate funds through player sales. They have already had a €15 million bid rejected for Nantes attacker Mathis Abline and are also considering Auxerre striker Lassine Sinayoko as potential replacements for Balogun. Balogun’s current Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) is €25.6 million, though the final transfer fee remains to be determined. The move could provide Chelsea with attacking reinforcement as they look to build upon their recent squad adjustments.
Balogun began his career at Arsenal before moving to Monaco, and a transfer to Chelsea would see him return to the Premier League. His goalscoring record in Ligue 1 has attracted interest from several clubs, but Chelsea appear to be at the forefront of the chase.
