Chelsea are considering submitting an increased bid for Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, after an initial offer of £64 million was rejected, according to Sky Germany. The Blues are weighing up a renewed approach for the 22-year-old, who has also emerged as a target for Arsenal.
Arsenal are currently focused on pursuing Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes, with a bid of around £70 million anticipated. However, should they fail to secure Guimaraes, Scott has been identified as a primary alternative. A full agreement on personal terms is already reportedly in place with Guimaraes, but Arsenal are preparing for the possibility of needing to shift their focus.
Scott has two years remaining on his current contract with Bournemouth, and the club had offered him a new deal including a release clause, which he declined. Bournemouth are currently resisting offers for Scott, determined to retain him ahead of their first ever European campaign. Despite this stance, the club are aware that Scott’s transfer value will decrease as he approaches the final year of his contract.
Chelsea’s interest in Scott is also reportedly shared by other clubs, with Thomas Tuchel, the former Chelsea manager, known to be an admirer of the player. Pep Guardiola previously described Scott as an “unbelievable player”. Bournemouth internally value Scott around £80 million, suggesting Chelsea will need to significantly increase their offer to convince them to sell. A successful bid from Chelsea would likely provide Bournemouth with significant funds to reinvest in their squad as they prepare for European competition.
Scott made 39 appearances across all competitions for Bournemouth last season, establishing himself as a key player in their midfield.
