Chelsea are showing significant interest in Stade Reims goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen, with the 20-year-old already visiting the club’s Cobham training facilities, according to Canal Plus. The potential move aligns with new manager Xabi Alonso’s anticipated overhaul of the Chelsea squad this summer.
Chelsea’s current goalkeeping situation is fluid. Robert Sanchez’s form has been inconsistent since arriving at Stamford Bridge, and while he improved last season, Alonso is reportedly seeking an upgrade. Mike Penders, recently signed by the club, is expected to compete with Sanchez for the starting position, potentially leading to the Spaniard seeking a move. Filip Jorgensen is also expected to depart in search of regular first-team football.
Jaouen has impressed during two seasons in Ligue 2, keeping 15 clean sheets and helping Reims achieve the third-best defensive record in the division. Despite not yet having played in France’s top flight, his performances have attracted attention from several European clubs. Reims are reportedly seeking a fee of around €25 million for the young shot-stopper.
Chelsea face competition for Jaouen’s signature. Newcastle United are also pursuing the player and are believed to have already agreed personal terms. Real Madrid are also monitoring the situation, viewing Jaouen as a potential long-term replacement for Thibaut Courtois. However, Jaouen’s visit to Cobham suggests Chelsea are a serious contender. The club was previously linked with AC Milan’s Mike Maignan, but were put off by Milan’s asking price last year, a situation that may have changed with Milan missing out on Champions League qualification.
