Chelsea have emerged as potential suitors for Paris Saint-Germain winger Ibrahim Mbaye, with the club reportedly prepared to offer €33 million for the 18-year-old, according to RMC Sport. This comes after PSG dismissed Chelsea’s interest in Mbaye during the January transfer window.
Mbaye experienced a somewhat inconsistent 2025/26 season with PSG, despite being a two-time Champions League winner. He did not feature in any of the club’s Champions League knockout stage matches, although he did return from international duty with confidence. The Senegal international was part of the squad that won the African Cup of Nations, appearing in all but one match of the tournament, before the title was later revoked.
Upon his return to Paris, Mbaye struggled to secure regular playing time, making only three Ligue 1 starts in the final months of the season and scoring twice in ten appearances. Despite limited minutes, his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at €33.4 million, reflecting his potential. He has made 42 appearances for PSG, primarily from the bench.
The situation at PSG is described as “uncertain” by RMC, with the club’s stance on Mbaye’s future unclear. Several clubs are reportedly monitoring the player, including Aston Villa, who also expressed interest in January. PSG responded to inquiries about Mbaye with a dismissive response, indicating they were not willing to sell at that time.
Chelsea’s interest stems from a need for reinforcement on the left wing, following disappointing performances from recent signings Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens. Mbaye, a right-footed player, is capable of playing on either flank. Data analytics firm SciSports suggests Mbaye possesses a similar potential to Chelsea’s young star Estevao, potentially making him an attractive prospect despite the club’s shift towards signing more established players under manager Xabi Alonso. A move for Mbaye could provide competition and long-term potential in a position that requires strengthening.
