While an agreement between the clubs is in place, the focus has shifted to convincing the 18-year-old to make the move to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea officials have held extensive discussions with Alajbegovic and his representatives, outlining their long-term vision for the Bosnian international. However, a breakthrough in personal terms has yet to be reached, as Alajbegovic is reportedly considering whether a transfer is the right step in his career at this time. He is said to appreciate the opportunity to continue working under Xabi Alonso, who is known to be a strong admirer of the player.
Despite Alonso’s positive assessment, sources indicate the Leverkusen manager has been candid about the potential for limited first-team opportunities for Alajbegovic this season, given the existing competition in attacking positions. This concern has been amplified by Chelsea’s recent club-record signing of Morgan Rogers, who is expected to feature prominently in Alonso’s plans. Chelsea are proposing a development-focused pathway for Alajbegovic, potentially involving a loan spell at sister club Strasbourg or another suitable destination before integrating him into the first team.
The uncertainty surrounding playing time has prompted interest from other clubs, notably Juventus. The Italian side have reportedly submitted an offer of €35million to Bayer Leverkusen and are prepared to negotiate further. Juventus are attempting to entice Alajbegovic with the promise of immediate first-team football under head coach Luciano Spalletti, a factor Chelsea cannot currently guarantee. Atalanta previously expressed interest but withdrew from the race after being unwilling to exceed a €30million bid, while Tottenham Hotspur have also made enquiries as a potential alternative to their pursuit of Savinho.
Chelsea are planning to create space in their squad for Alajbegovic by allowing several attacking players to depart. The club is also nearing the signing of Danny Welbeck and are considering offers for Liam Delap.
