Chelsea are reportedly showing significant interest in Bologna winger Jonathan Rowe, with a potential bid of €38 million being prepared, according to Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness. The pursuit comes amid uncertainty surrounding the futures of current Chelsea wingers Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens.
Chelsea have experienced difficulties in the left-wing position despite signing both Garnacho and Gittens last summer. A recent match saw defender Marc Cucurella deployed further forward due to the unavailability of both players, highlighting the current issues in the squad. Both Garnacho and Gittens have failed to make a significant impact since arriving at Stamford Bridge.
Garnacho’s future at Chelsea is already being questioned after just one season, with speculation suggesting the club may look to move him on. While former manager Liam Rosenior downplayed talk of a sale in April, his subsequent dismissal adds further uncertainty. Chelsea’s recent history suggests a sale should not be ruled out.
Jonathan Rowe, 22, has emerged as a potential replacement, although he has recently been sidelined with an injury. Prior to his injury, Rowe impressed in the Europa League against Aston Villa, drawing attention from several clubs. The Englishman previously played for Norwich and Marseille before joining Bologna.
Despite Chelsea’s reported interest, Gazzetta dello Sport suggests they are not currently leading the race for Rowe’s signature. Galatasaray are actively pursuing the winger as they seek a permanent replacement for Noa Lang, whose loan from Napoli will not be made permanent. Bologna are hesitant to sell Rowe after only one season, but acknowledge they may be unable to resist a substantial offer. The potential absence of Champions League football for Chelsea next season may also hinder their chances of securing the deal. Rowe’s arrival would bolster Chelsea’s attacking options, while a departure for Garnacho could free up funds and squad space.
