Chelsea have been linked with a move for Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga, though any potential transfer is reportedly dependent on Rodri joining the Spanish club this summer, according to the Daily Mail. Rodri, who recently captained Spain to World Cup victory, is reportedly pushing for a transfer to Real Madrid, managed by Jose Mourinho.
Rodri’s current contract with Manchester City is set to expire next year, and he has previously indicated a desire to return to play in Spain. Real Madrid officials are believed to be supportive of a move for the midfielder, who was awarded the Golden Ball for his performances at the World Cup. Mourinho is reportedly seeking to add leadership to the Real Madrid dressing room following internal issues last season, including an altercation between Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni which resulted in fines for both players.
Should Real Madrid successfully sign Rodri, the club may look to offload players to balance the squad, with Camavinga identified as a potential departure. Chelsea have reportedly already considered a bid for the French international, with talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook also reporting on the club’s interest. A move to Chelsea would see Camavinga reunite with Xabi Alonso, having previously worked together during Alonso’s tenure at Real Madrid.
Camavinga publicly expressed his gratitude and respect for Alonso following the Spaniard’s dismissal in January, posting a message on Instagram praising his work ethic and impact on the team. The 23-year-old joined Real Madrid from Rennes in August 2021 and has since made 223 appearances, winning 11 trophies including two La Liga titles and two Champions League crowns. He has also earned 29 caps for France, though he was not part of the squad for the recent World Cup.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have seen a €75million (£64m) bid for Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott rejected, according to BBC Sport. The club recently completed the signing of Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa for a club-record fee of €138m (£117m).
