Chelsea are set to submit a second bid of €80 million for Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, after their initial offer of €75 million was rejected, according to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg. The 22-year-old Scott enjoyed a breakout season with Bournemouth, playing a key role in their highest-ever Premier League finish, and has declined a contract extension amid interest from several top clubs.
Arsenal and Manchester United have both been linked with a move for the England international, but Chelsea are currently considered the frontrunners in the pursuit of his signature. The Blues are prepared to increase their offer as they view Scott as a crucial addition to their midfield following the recent sale of Andrey Santos to Manchester United. Chelsea are also nearing the completion of a deal for Crystal Palace centre-back Maxence Lacroix, and are expected to accelerate their efforts to sign Scott once that transfer is finalised.
Bournemouth are reportedly keen to retain Scott’s services, ideally until at least next summer, but their resolve is expected to be tested by Chelsea’s increased bid. Scott featured in 39 matches across all competitions for Bournemouth last season, scoring four goals. His Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at €41.9 million, though Bournemouth are holding out for a fee closer to Chelsea’s latest offer.
Chelsea’s interest in Scott is understandable given his impressive performances for Bournemouth and the departure of Santos. His skillset appears well-suited to partner with Moises Caicedo in a double-pivot midfield at Stamford Bridge. While Enzo Fernandez is expected to remain at Chelsea, the club recognises the need for further midfield reinforcement, and Scott represents one of the most promising options available, particularly as reports suggest he is eager to join the west London club. His composure in possession, ability to progress play, and defensive work rate would all be valuable assets for manager Xabi Alonso.
