Borussia Mönchengladbach have confirmed a contract extension for defender Fabio Chiarodia, extending his stay at the club until June 30, 2028. The 21-year-old centre-back has committed his future to Gladbach after a period of development and increased first-team opportunities. The extension comes after Chiarodia recently earned his first two senior international caps for Italy.
Chiarodia joined Borussia Mönchengladbach from Werder Bremen in 2023 at the age of 18, quickly establishing himself as a promising talent within the Bundesliga. Last season, the Italian youth international made 15 appearances in the German top flight, demonstrating his growing influence within the team. He was also a member of the Italy Under-19 team that won the European Championship.
Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Head of Sports, Rouven Schröder, highlighted Chiarodia’s potential, stating that the club wants to support him in taking the “final step towards establishing himself at the highest level”. Schröder emphasized the defender’s performances for both Gladbach and the Italian national team as evidence of his capabilities.
Chiarodia himself expressed his satisfaction with his development at the club, noting his continuous improvement as a player and the increasing playing time he has received. He specifically acknowledged the trust shown to him by the club, particularly after recovering from a recent injury. He also praised positive discussions with Eugen Polanski and Rouven Schröder, which solidified his decision to extend his contract.
The extension secures a key defensive prospect for Gladbach, who will hope Chiarodia continues his upward trajectory and becomes a mainstay in their backline. His recent call-up to the Italian national team also suggests a growing reputation and potential for further development, potentially increasing his market value in the future.
