Inter manager Cristian Chivu is experimenting with tactical variations during the team’s pre-season training camp in Germany, according to reports from the camp. While maintaining the established 3-5-2 formation that has defined Inter’s recent success, Chivu is exploring options for squad depth and tactical flexibility as the club prepares to compete on multiple fronts.
A notable development is the continued evaluation of Andy Diouf at right wing-back, a position previously held by Denzel Dumfries. Diouf featured for the full 90 minutes in a recent friendly, scoring twice and providing an assist, demonstrating his potential contribution to the team. Luis Henrique also saw time on the wings, showcasing Chivu’s intention to utilize players with inverted wing play. Carlos Augusto is being positioned as a direct backup to Alessandro Bastoni in central defense, providing a reliable option when the Italian is unavailable.
Chivu appears to be prioritizing a more vertical and aggressive style of play, seeking to advance the ball quickly towards the opposition goal. Aleksandar Stankovic, son of former Inter midfielder Dejan Stankovic, is being groomed as the understudy to Hakan Calhanoglu in the regista role. The manager is aiming for a consistent replacement for Calhanoglu, having previously relied on multiple players to fill the void during the Turkish international’s absences.
In goal, Inter have secured both Pepo Martinez, promoted to first-choice following the departure of Yann Sommer, and Ivan Provedel, signed for a fee of €3 million in June. Chivu intends to rotate the two goalkeepers to manage workload and ensure consistent performance throughout a demanding season. The club is also reportedly pursuing further reinforcements in other areas of the squad, though those moves are currently taking a backseat to assessing the existing options. These changes suggest Inter are preparing for a season where they aim to build on their recent successes and maintain a strong presence in both domestic and European competitions.
