Inter manager Cristian Chivu is set to sign a contract extension with the club, keeping him at the San Siro until 2028, according to reports in Italy. Club president Marotta will formally present the new contract to Chivu following the Coppa Italia final.
Inter are reportedly delighted with Chivu’s performance since taking over as manager, and the extension reflects the club’s policy of not entering a season with a manager whose contract is expiring. The extension comes after Inter secured the Serie A title, with the possibility of adding the Coppa Italia to their trophy haul this season. Chivu took charge of Inter after 13 matches as manager of Parma, and was brought in to revitalize a dressing room that had experienced tension.
Sources indicate that communication between the club and Chivu is ongoing, with discussions about the future already underway. Chivu initially accepted the Inter offer last year without extensive negotiation, prioritizing the opportunity to return to a familiar environment. Now, he is expected to discuss his vision for the squad, focusing on acquiring players who fit his preferred rapid and vertical style of play. He is expected to request reinforcements to improve the team’s pace and endurance.
Marotta has publicly expressed his confidence in Chivu’s future at the club, stating he believes Chivu will remain with Inter even beyond his own tenure. The new contract is expected to see Chivu’s salary increase from €2.1 million to €3 million per season. The club will also assess young players in the remaining Serie A matches to determine potential future squad members, before making decisions in the transfer market. This extension solidifies Chivu’s position as a key figure in Inter’s long-term project, aiming to build on their domestic success and become competitive in Europe.
