Clermont Foot 63 is poised for a change in ownership and leadership, with Swiss investor Ahmet Schaefer set to sell a 94.33% stake in the club to Stéphane Tessier. The agreement, announced on Sunday, will see Tessier, formerly a close advisor to Pablo Longoria at Olympique de Marseille, likely assume control of the club in the coming weeks.
According to a statement released by Clermont, both Schaefer, representing Coresports Alliance, and Tessier, representing ABL Finance, are scheduled to appear before the Direction Nationale du Contrôle de Gestion (DNCG) on June 23rd, 2026, at 2:30 PM to finalize the transfer of ownership. The DNCG’s approval is a necessary step in completing the sale.
The move comes as Clermont looks to revitalize its fortunes after a 13th-place finish in Ligue 2 last season. Tessier’s appointment is expected to usher in a new era for the club, with the ambition of returning to Ligue 1 and experiencing the success of past seasons at the Gabriel-Montpied stadium.
Tessier brings experience from his time working alongside Longoria at Marseille, where he was involved in the club’s transfer strategy and overall management. While details of his plans for Clermont are yet to be fully revealed, the change in ownership signals a clear intent to invest in the club’s future. The potential for new investment and a fresh approach could prove crucial in Clermont’s pursuit of promotion and sustained success.
