Como are continuing their efforts to strengthen their defence with a move for Bologna’s Jhon Lucumi, according to reports in Italy. The newly promoted Serie A side have seen a previous bid for Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah fall through due to concerns over achievable bonus clauses, and have now turned their attention to the Colombian centre-back.
Lucumi, 28, is expected to leave Bologna this summer, though his departure is contingent on negotiations with the Rossoblù after a release clause of €28 million expired on July 15th. Bologna’s sporting director, Claudio Fenucci, has indicated the club will consider offers for the player, having previously promised Lucumi he would be allowed to leave should a suitable bid arrive. The defender is also attracting interest from Juventus, and reportedly favours a move to the Turin club.
Bologna are holding firm on their valuation of Lucumi, but are prepared to sell if their asking price is met. Como are actively seeking to reinforce their defensive options, with manager Cesc Fàbregas believing improvements are necessary in that area if the club are to challenge for European qualification. The club have already added Brazilian left-back Kaiki to their squad, and are also monitoring Yan Couto, currently at Borussia Dortmund.
Como are also exploring options to bolster their attack, with the need for cover behind Tasos Douvikas a priority. The future of Álvaro Morata is uncertain due to his high wages, and Alessandro Gabrielloni’s position is also unclear despite scoring in a recent friendly against Paris FC. The club are currently participating in the Como Cup, a pre-season tournament featuring several European clubs, including Crystal Palace, Lens, and Villarreal.
